Behind the Print: Dutch Floral

Dutch Floral began with a shared fascination: the richness, drama and excess of Dutch Golden Age flower paintings. Peonies, tulips and roses piled high, beautiful right at the edge of decay.

For Vincent and Rob, co-founders of Skull & Bones, the fashion potential was immediate. Then came the Skull & Bones intervention: a skull in the bouquet.

That skull brings the idea of memento mori—a reminder of mortality—to the foreground. Among the flowers, beauty and impermanence occupy the same space. The darkness is part of what makes the bouquet compelling.

“We’re a fashion art house first, and this print is that idea in its purest form: fine art, a little dark, made to be worn.”

Dutch Floral carries that point of view into the intimate ritual of getting dressed. The flowers draw you in. The skull asks you to look again. Together, they turn an everyday piece into an expression of the people who created it—and the person wearing it.
